Leashing the Dogs of War?
Josh Marshall quotes Chris Nelson, who maintains that Colin Powell may have had a hand in keeping the hawks at bay in Syria and where N. Korea is concerned. He even finds cause for optimism in Palestine, such as it can be found.

You know, I used to hear about things like this and have a lot of respect for Colin Powell. If it's all true I'm still grateful for his role (although I wonder sometimes if it wouldn't have been better to just allow Bush to barrel full-on with his insanity, the better to let him wreck the country and world and the sooner to get his fascist ass voted out of office).
However, ever since I learned that Powell covered up the FUCKING MY LAI MASSACRE back in Nam (am I allowed to say "back in Nam" as a 33 year old? Probably not. Make that "Vietnam"), and has never apologized for it, and has even defended U.S. tactics in Vietnam, and thought we should have kept going with the war --
I dunno, with that on your record it's really hard to earn brownie points after that no matter what you do.
I mean, dude. The My Lai Massacre.
(said in the tone of voice of Walter saying "An eight year old, Dude.")
