Rub rub rub
Michael Kinsley can't contain his glee. (Last item on the Bennett thing, unless, of course, it somehow gets better/worse).Comments
You know, I'm not above a little glee over this, either. I would say that most of the commentary I've read, as well as the original article, hasn't so much been gleeful but fairly measured, acknowledging that this wouldn't represent much muck for anyone who hadn't spent so much time wagging his finger at the rest of us. I also thought that that very damning e-mail (apparently from a conservative) that Sullivan excerpted on his site had some salient points on Bennett's habits and how they should preclude his service in government.
However, I don't really care to demonize Bennett any more than I care to have the right demonize liberals for demonizing Bennett for demonizing liberals. What I would like, though, would be for the right, for once, to admit that we are all, right and left, fallible, and have all been seduced upon occasion by the whispers of the little horn'd and pitchfork'd fellow who daily rides upon our left shoulders. And then maybe they could climb the fuck down off the rest of our backs.
That's what I'd like.
Finally, I have to admit I do question the character of anyone who desires to spend more than 10 minutes of his whole life playing slot machines. I'd rather stare blankly at the horizon than play slots.
